Republic of Malit[]
1944-1974[]
After World War II, the Malit Islands were liberated from the Hokuseise Empire and turned into a sovereign state, being initially a trust territory of the United Republics during a transitional period.
1974-present[]
In 1974, after public consultation, the Legislative Council unanimously approved the change of flag to the current one under the pretense that the then-current flag was considered "not representative enough of the country", which was later ratified by the President of the Republic. The flag was designed by Loi Shiu Pek (1931-2011) and it was meant to symbolize the landscape of the islands.
