Chaîne R is a Roterlanese commercial broadcast television network that is owned by Groupe MV1. The network is headquartered in Trendon. It was founded in 1986 as Telecinq before taking on its current name in 1992.
Télécinq[]
1986-1991[]
Chaîne R was launched as Télécinq in February 20th, 1986 as part of the Itainian media conglomerate Mediaset in a joint-venture with shipping company Chargeurs, with its stake being then sold to publishing company Socpresse the following year.
1991-1992[]
In 1990, due to the debts the channel accumulated over the years, Socpresse sold its stake to rival publishing company Hachette (now part of Lagardère), with the channel premiering a new brand identity the following year, deemphasizing its Mediaset ownership.
Chaîne R[]
1992-1995[]
In 1992, after declaring bankruptcy, Télécinq's assets were acquired by a consortium led by Groupe MV1, AB Groupe and NRJ Group, with Hachette owner Lagardère remaining as a strategic partner, with the intention of serving as a secondary service to Groupe MV1's main channel (the same way TVR3 was to TVR2) as the channel was then renamed Chaîne R. A few days after the former service shut down, a transitional service managed by MV1 started its broadcasts and became the rebranded channel two months after.
